Peachtree BioResearch Solutions Supports the Georgia Bio Visiting Scientist Program Atlanta, GA, October 2nd, 2009 Peachtree BioResearch Solutions, Inc., a business specializing in contract clinical research services, is actively supporting the Visiting Scientist Program of the Georgia Bio. The Visiting Scientist Program is an outreach program designed to increase the contact between students and educators and professional life scientists. The Visiting Scientists make themselves available to discuss life science careers, their own research, and additional special topics. The program is funded through a generous donation from the Georgia Power Foundation. Recently, Charles Romano, Director of Global Clinical Operations and Government Affairs at Peachtree visited the seventh grade class of the Commerce City Middle School. Using a discussion about the affects of nicotine on brain receptors, Mr. Romano led a simulated research activity pairing students as scientist and research subject. With M&Ms as the experimental treatment, the “Scientists” recorded the reactions of their “subjects” and learned about blocking signals, peer-pressure and learned response. “Following our experiments, the students brainstormed ways to block the responses to nicotine,” stated Mr. Romano. Interestingly, they came up with ideas faster and easier than many of the scientists working on the same problems.” Mickey Reynolds, the 8th grade class’ Science teacher commented, “The students stayed focused on the lesson, and this type of exposure to the type of work scientists do is what our students need more of.” About Peachtree BioResearch Solutions, Inc.
